“...but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
What is hope? Is hope another word for wish? Is it a desire for something to work out in our favor, apart from anything of substance we can hold on to? I have many times hoped for my favorite sports team to win the championship, and have been left disappointed. The Bible speaks on hope in a different way.
Biblical hope not only desires something of the future, but expects it to happen based off the character of God. Our God is perfect and cares for His children. This is seen most visibly through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, who makes us “holy and blameless in His sight” so “that we should be called children of God”. Our hope is found alone in Jesus. His promises allow us to look forward to better days with assurance and confidence.
Hope acts as a reserve tank when we are emotionally and spiritually empty. When things aren’t going according to plan, life has worn you down, or you don’t feel like you can carry on—hope is the reserve tank that allows you the strength to keep going. Jesus has never once left us or forsaken us. He walks beside us in our struggles and we can confidently look to Him for everything we need.
My prayer for you is this…
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
